Shillong Law College Announces First National Moot Court Competition
The Shillong Law College, established in 1964 and renowned for its distinguished alumni and significant contributions to legal education, is set to host its inaugural National Moot Court Competition from August 22 to 24, 2024. This event marks a major milestone for the institution, providing an important platform for law students across the country to demonstrate their advocacy skills, legal knowledge, and courtroom decorum.
About the Competition
Endorsed by prominent legal professionals and educators, this competition aims to simulate real court proceedings, offering participants a realistic and challenging environment to engage with complex legal issues. Participants will argue hypothetical cases before a panel of esteemed judges, enhancing their ability to present persuasive arguments and handle judicial questioning with confidence.
The competition will feature multiple rounds, including preliminary rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final round. Each round will escalate in complexity, requiring higher levels of preparation and proficiency. Judges will evaluate teams based on their written submissions, oral arguments, and overall courtroom demeanor.

Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to students currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate law program (3-year LL.B. or 5-year B.A.LL.B) at any recognized law school or university in India. Each team should consist of three members – two speakers and one researcher.
Application Procedure
1. Provisional Registration: Teams must register online by July 5, 2024, via the provided [Google Forms ]. The provisional registration will require basic team information and contact details.
2. Registration Fees: The registration fee is Rs. 3299 without accommodation and Rs. 4799 with accommodation. Teams opting for accommodation will be provided with lodging facilities for the duration of the competition.
3. Final Registration: Upon provisional registration, the organizing committee will forward the final registration link and bank details to the team leaders via email. The final registration involves payment of the registration fee and submission of detailed team information.
4. Team Codes: Once the final registration is complete and the fee is successfully paid, each team will receive a unique team code. This code will be used for all subsequent communications with the organizing committee and during the competition to ensure anonymity.
5. Non-refundable Fee: The registration fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.
Participants are encouraged to register early as only 30 teams will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis. After successful registration, teams will receive an official confirmation email from the organizing committee.
