About the Organisation
The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) was the first National Law University established in India in 1986. It is widely regarded as one of the country’s premier law schools, known for pioneering legal education reforms and contributing to legal research, policy development, and institutional transformation.
About the Fellowship
The NLSIU Litigation Fellowship is designed to support young lawyers at the early stages of their litigation careers.
The programme specifically addresses challenges faced by:
- First-generation lawyers
- Lawyers from marginalized communities
- Women entering litigation
The fellowship aims to:
- Provide financial support
- Offer mentorship and guidance
- Build a strong peer-learning network
- Strengthen commitment to constitutional values and rule of law
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Graduate of a 3-year or 5-year LL.B. with minimum 55% marks or equivalent CGPA
- Must be enrolled with a State Bar Council
- Must have cleared the All India Bar Examination (AIBE)
Also eligible:
- Final-year law students graduating in 2026 (subject to fulfilling above conditions before commencement)
Additional Conditions:
- Maximum age: 30 years
- Not more than 5 years since graduation
- Must have secured a position with a practising lawyer/law office
- Must submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP)
Preference
Preference will be given to:
- First-generation lawyers
- Candidates from marginalized communities
- Women litigators
Special opportunities for women fellows include:
- Skill-building programmes
- Networking initiatives
- Professional development support
