Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice B.R. Gavai on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed Advocate Chambers and Multilevel Parking facility at the Allahabad High Court. The occasion marks a significant step towards improving infrastructure for the legal fraternity and enhancing facilities for litigants, with a special emphasis on accessibility for women and differently-abled individuals.

A Judiciary for the People

While addressing the gathering, CJI Gavai emphasized that the judiciary and the government have worked not only for judges and lawyers but also for litigants, who are the core stakeholders of the justice system. He shared that an adjacent plot near the new building is earmarked for further development to provide comprehensive amenities for litigants, including those with special needs.

"This infrastructure reflects that we work not just for lawyers or judges, but for citizens who approach the judiciary seeking justice," said the Chief Justice.

Bar and Bench: A Unique Collaboration

Justice Gavai lauded the unique cooperation between the Bar and the Bench, recalling how High Court judges willingly gave up their official bungalows to make way for the construction of the new facility.

"Such sacrifice and unity between judges and lawyers are rare and noteworthy. The chariot of justice cannot move forward unless both the Bar and Bench work in tandem," he noted.

Gratitude to CM Yogi Adityanath

The Chief Justice extended his heartfelt thanks to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for providing the necessary financial support for the project. He highlighted the Chief Minister’s active involvement in enhancing judicial infrastructure not only in Prayagraj but across all districts of the state.

“Such a large-scale facility for lawyers is unparalleled. It’s a matter of pride not just for Uttar Pradesh but for the entire country.”

Ahilyabai Holkar’s Legacy Honored

The event coincided with the birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, whom Justice Gavai described as a pioneer of social justice in India. He called the timing of the inauguration symbolically powerful and meaningful.

“To dedicate this building on the birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar is an honor. She represented social equity in her time, much like the judiciary aims to today.”

Reaffirming the Constitution’s Vision

Reflecting on India’s constitutional journey, Justice Gavai invoked Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s final speech to the Constituent Assembly on November 25, 1949. He reminded the audience of Ambedkar's warning: without eradicating social and economic inequalities, true democracy cannot be achieved.

"Over 75 years, our executive and judiciary have made strides toward ensuring social and economic equality, in line with Ambedkar's vision."

Prayagraj: Land of Power and Legacy

The CJI expressed deep emotional connection with Prayagraj, terming it the land of powerful people and intellectuals. He recalled the city's glorious legal and cultural history, citing notable figures like Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Tej Bahadur Sapru, and literary icons such as Mahadevi Verma, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, and freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad.

“Being in Prayagraj, a city with immense contributions to India’s legal, literary, and freedom movements, is a privilege,” he stated.

In a strong statement, CJI Gavai claimed that the newly inaugurated building surpasses legal infrastructure seen not just in India but globally.

“I’ve travelled across India and the world, but never seen such a grand and well-equipped facility for advocates anywhere. This building sets a global benchmark.”

He congratulated the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, the judiciary, and the Uttar Pradesh Government for making such a monumental achievement possible.
