Prayagraj: Lit for Life: A Literary Club, under the aegis  of the Department of English, United University Prayagraj, successfully hosted a one-day symposium titled Reading of Literature Towards the Betterment of Society, accompanied by a poetry recital. The event brought together distinguished scholars, poets, and academicians to explore literature’s profound impact on human values and societal advancement.

The symposium featured two eminent speakers: Dr. Shlesh Gautam, Assistant Professor at Allahabad Degree College and an internationally renowned poet, and Dr. Mrityunjay Rao Parmar, Assistant Professor in the Department of English & Modern European Languages at Allahabad University. Their thought-provoking deliberations underscored literature’s pivotal role in shaping individuals and, in turn, society.

The proceedings commenced with a floral tribute to Maa Saraswati, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Addressing the audience, Dr. Shlesh Gautam emphasized that literature is the essence of life, integral to every human experience. He captivated the gathering with his verses on patriotism, women’s empowerment, the significance of daughters, and the cultural richness of Prayagraj, interwoven with humor and satire that resonated deeply with students.

In his keynote address, Dr. Mrityunjay Rao Parmar drew parallels between literature and divinity, arguing that, much like a deity creates human beings, great literature nurtures individuals with humanistic virtues. He elaborated on literature’s evolving role across different life stages, asserting that while literature may not directly build societies, it molds individuals who, in turn, shape communities.

Dr. Roshni Srivastava, Assistant Academic Dean at United University, lauded the symposium, noting that the poetic renditions and scholarly discussions had ignited a deep appreciation for literature among students. Mr. Rajesh Pathak, Registrar of United University, reinforced this sentiment by presenting his own literary compositions.

The symposium was enriched by the presence of Dr. Geetika Pandey, Head of the Faculty of Science & Arts, who, along with symposium organizer Dr. Kunvar Shekhar Gupta, welcomed the esteemed guests with floral bouquets and ceremonial shawls. In her welcome speech, Dr. Pandey reflected on the dual significance of science and literature, stating, "While science teaches logic, literature fosters human emotions."

A significant highlight of the event was the unveiling of the cover page of "Chronicles of Life, Love and Beyond" , an anthology compiled under Lit for Life’s initiative. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kunvar Shekhar Gupta, Editor-in-Chief of the anthology and symposium organizer, shared insights into the collection, which features poetry and narratives penned by scholars and professors from across India. The anthology will soon be available on leading platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart. Dr. Gupta extended gratitude to all dignitaries and assured that the Department of English at United University would continue to host literary events in the future.

Further adding to the intellectual engagement, a Literary Quiz Competition, directed by Dr. Prasoon Tripathi, concluded with certificates awarded to the victorious students.

The symposium concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Jolly Sengupta, while Ananya Mishra coordinated the event seamlessly. The proceedings were skillfully anchored by Baria Wakeel and Ekta Pathak.

Among the distinguished attendees were Dr. Anand Tripathi, Dr. Ramji Mishra, Dr. Shashikant Upadhyay, Dr. Abhijeet Prasad, Dr. Vikram Singh, Dr. Shitu Singh, Shubham Chaurasia, Dr. Amrita Raj, Dr. Satya Prakash Singh, Namita Srivastava, Pallavi Saxena, Meenal, and Prakhar Gangwar, President of Lit for Life Literary Club, alongside hundreds of enthusiastic students.
