Reduction in LLB Seats at Allahabad University and Constituent Colleges
Previously, the Main Campus of Allahabad University, along with its constituent colleges - Allahabad Degree College (ADC) and Chaudhary Mahadeo Prasad (CMP) College - each had an intake capacity of 375 students for the LLB program. This year, the intake at each institution has been reduced from 375 to 300 students.

Past Reductions by BCI
This is not the first time BCI has enforced such measures. In 2016, the BCI reduced the total intake for LLB courses at these institutions. Back then, the total intake was 1,479 students, with 493 students allocated to the Main Campus, CMP, and ADC respectively. The BCI cut this number down to 300 seats per college, making a total of 900 seats.
With the implementation of the reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), the number of seats in various courses, including LLB, saw a 25% increase. This adjustment brought the intake back to 375 seats per institution. However, the latest move by the BCI to curtail the number of seats to 300 again marks a significant setback for prospective law students.
11,472 students to appear for LLB Entrance Examination
Adding to the gravity of the situation, 11,472 students have registered to participate in the LLB entrance examination for the University of Allahabad this year. This drastic reduction in seats is a major blow to these candidates appearing in the Post Graduation Admission Test (PGAT) for pursuing LLB, significantly lowering their chances of securing admission.

The BCI's decision is typically based on adherence to specific guidelines that universities must follow to ensure the quality of legal education. The failure to meet these guidelines often results in a reduction of seats. However, the University of Allahabad has yet to provide a detailed explanation for the recent reduction in LLB seats.
This 20% reduction highlights ongoing issues and challenges within the university's compliance with BCI regulations. Students and academic communities are now awaiting further clarification from the university administration on the measures being taken to address these concerns and the reasons behind the BCI's decision.
