Sadanlal Sanwaldas Khanna Mahila Mahavidyalaya to Host 3rd Inter-Collegiate Bilingual Politico-Legal Debate Competition ‘PRATIVAAD’ on May 20, 2025

The Saroj Lalji Mehrotra Centre of Legal Studies in collaboration with the Department of Political Science of Sadanlal Sanwaldas Khanna Mahila Mahavidyalaya (a constituent college of the University of Allahabad), is proud to announce the 3rd edition of its prestigious bilingual inter-collegiate politico-legal debate competition, PRATIVAAD, scheduled for 20th May 2025. The event aims to foster critical thinking, political awareness, and legal insight among undergraduate students of Law and Political Science.
Topic and Theme
This year's theme explores a timely and thought-provoking question:
"World on the verge of war: Inevitable tool of participating nations or manipulative tool of powerful nations"
(युद्ध की कगार पर विश्व: युद्धरत राष्ट्र का अनिवार्य विकल्प या शक्तिशाली राष्ट्र का हितसाधन)
The topic encourages participants to deliberate on international conflicts from both political and legal perspectives, assessing whether war is a necessary evil or a tool manipulated by dominant global powers.

- Date of Competition: 20th May 2025
Eligibility and Team Composition
- Open exclusively to bona fide undergraduate students of Political Science or those pursuing a 5-year integrated law program in colleges and universities of Prayagraj.
- Each team will consist of two members, one speaking for the motion and the other against.
- Only students from the same institute/department may form a team.
- Each department (Law/Political Science) can submit a maximum of two teams, regardless of the language chosen (Hindi or English).
- A recommendation letter from the institute is mandatory at the time of registration.
Competition Format
The debate will be conducted in two rounds – Preliminary and Final.
Preliminary Round:
- Each speaker will get 4 minutes to present their arguments.
- No rebuttals are allowed in this round.
- The top 4 teams based on cumulative scores will qualify for the final.
Final Round:
- Matchups and motions will be decided through a draw of lots.
- Each team gets 4 minutes to speak, followed by a 2-minute rebuttal by the non-speaking member.
- Rebuttals will take place only after both teams have completed their speeches.
Judgment Criteria
Participants will be evaluated on:
- Organization and clarity of thoughts
- Presentation style
- Knowledge of subject
- Originality and ingenuity
- Rebuttal handling (final round only)
General Rules
- Identity disclosure during the debate is prohibited; teams will be identified via team codes.
- Use of books, gadgets, or any external material during the debate is strictly forbidden.
- The decision of the judges will be final and binding.
- Foul or obscene language will result in disqualification.

- Best Speaker (Against the Motion): ₹2000 + Trophy + Certificate
- Best Team Award: ₹2000 + Trophy + Certificate
All participants will receive certificates of participation.
