UGC Issues Clarification on Fake Exam Cancellation Notice Circulating Online

Fake Notice Claims Exams Are Cancelled Due to “War Situation”; UGC Denies

New Delhi, May 2025 – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a strong alert against a fake public notice that is being widely circulated on social media platforms and messaging apps. The fraudulent notice falsely claims that all university examinations across the country have been cancelled due to an ongoing “war situation” and advises students to return home for their safety.

The UGC has officially declared this notice as fake and urged students, faculty, and stakeholders to rely only on official UGC communication channels for updates.

No Exams Cancelled, No Advisory Issued

The fabricated notice, falsely attributed to the UGC and signed under the name of a “Pro Chancellor”, states that “all examinations at the university, diploma, and certificate levels are cancelled with immediate effect until further notice.” It further claims that the directive has been issued “in light of the extraordinary and emergent situation” to “ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.”

The UGC has strongly condemned this misinformation, clarifying:

“UGC has not issued any such advisory. The notice being circulated is completely fake and misleading.”

UGC Urges Public to Stay Alert and Verify Sources

To counter the spread of such misinformation, the UGC has released an official graphic marking the notice as “FAKE” and has advised all stakeholders to:

  • Avoid sharing unverified information
  • Check the authenticity of notices via the official UGC website: www.ugc.gov.in
  • Follow UGC on its verified social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

Misinformation is a Punishable Offence

The UGC also reminded the public that spreading false or fabricated notices is not only irresponsible but also legally punishable under various cyber laws. The Commission may initiate legal action against those involved in generating or circulating such misleading content.

Conclusion: No Change in Exam Schedule

Students and academic institutions are advised to continue with their scheduled academic and examination plans. There has been no announcement of exam cancellations or closures by UGC.

Stay vigilant, verify from official sources, and do not fall for misinformation.
