‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ Launched Under Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE: Students to Nurture Saplings for Environmental Sustainability

A unique blend of emotional connect and ecological responsibility to inspire lifelong environmental stewardship

In a heartfelt tribute to motherhood and nature, the Ministry of Education’s Eco Clubs under Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) have launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ initiative. This nation-wide movement encourages students across schools to plant a sapling in the name of their mother and Mother Earth, fostering a personal and emotional connection to environmental conservation.

🌱 Post-Plantation Responsibility: Nurturing Saplings Beyond Plantation Day

Unlike many plantation drives that end with the act of planting, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 emphasizes post-plantation care as a core component. Students are guided to:

  • Provide regular water and nutrients
  • Protect the plant from harsh climatic conditions (like offering shade during heatwaves)
  • Monitor the sapling's growth through regular check-ins

This continuous care ensures the long-term survival and flourishing of the planted trees — transforming symbolic gestures into impactful climate actions.

🌍 Building Eco-Conscious Citizens from Classrooms

Through this initiative, students not only contribute to green cover but also develop:

  • A sense of responsibility toward nature
  • Empathy and respect for life forms
  • A habit of sustainable practices aligned with Mission LiFE's core values

This aligns with the National Education Policy’s vision of integrating environmental education into the school curriculum.

📲 Innovative Add-On: QR Codes for Flora

To track progress and increase engagement, schools are encouraged to implement QR Codes for each sapling, allowing parents, teachers, and local communities to follow the growth journey and contribute to its care when needed.

🔗 Backed by the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL)

With institutional support from DoSEL, Ministry of Education, the initiative is expected to reach lakhs of students across the country. It acts as a stepping stone towards achieving India’s broader goals under Mission LiFE—a global movement launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sustainable lifestyles and climate resilience.

📣 A Call to Action:

“One sapling for one mother – and a lifetime of care. That’s how we grow a greener planet,” said a representative from the Eco Club network.
