About the Internship Scheme
NITI Aayog initiated its Internship Scheme in 2015 to provide hands-on exposure to students and research scholars to the functioning of the Government and public policy formulation.
The scheme seeks to engage:
- Students pursuing Undergraduate (UG), Graduate, or Postgraduate (PG) degrees
- Research Scholars / Ph.D. candidates
- Students enrolled in recognized universities/institutions in India or abroad
📅 Duration of Internship
- Minimum: 6 Weeks
- Maximum: 6 Months
🎓 Eligibility Criteria
Bonafide students from recognized universities/institutions (India or abroad) fulfilling the following conditions are eligible:
1️⃣ Undergraduate Students
- Must have completed/appeared in term-end exams of the 2nd year / 4th semester
- Must have secured at least 85% or equivalent marks in Class 12
2️⃣ Postgraduate / Research Students
- Must have completed/appeared in term-end exams of 1st year / 2nd semester of PG program, OR
- Be pursuing Research / Ph.D.
- Must have secured at least 70% or equivalent marks in Graduation
3️⃣ Students Awaiting Admission for Higher Studies
Candidates who:
- Have appeared in final exams or just completed Graduation/PG
- Are awaiting admission for higher studies
May also apply, provided they have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in all semesters/years up to the date of application.
Important Condition
The period between the declaration of final results and the desired internship month must not exceed 6 months.
For example, if results are declared in June, internship can begin up to December.
📝 Important Application Rules
- Applications must be submitted online only
- Applications can be made six months in advance
- Applications must be submitted not later than 2 months before the desired internship month
- Applicants must clearly indicate their area of interest
- A candidate can apply only once in a financial year
Selected applicants must produce:
- Original mark sheets
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from college/institution (Format in Annexure ‘C’ of official guidelines)
Failure to produce these documents will result in cancellation of candidature.
