The Supreme Court of India (Recruitment Cell) has officially released an advertisement for the engagement of Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on a short-term contractual assignment for the assignment term 2026–2027.

Online applications are invited under the Scheme of Engaging Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on Short-Term Contractual Assignment in the Supreme Court of India, as amended. A panel of approximately 90 candidates will be prepared for engagement.

Essential Qualifications

To be eligible for the post of Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate, a candidate must fulfill the following conditions:

Educational Qualification

  1. The candidate must be a Law Graduate holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.), including integrated law courses, from any institution:

    • Established by law in India, and
    • Recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an Advocate.
  2. Final-year students are also eligible to apply:

    • Students studying in the 5th year of the 5-year Integrated Law Course, or
    • Students in the 3rd year of the 3-year LL.B. course,
      subject to furnishing proof of acquiring the law degree before taking up the assignment.


Nature of Engagement

  • The assignment is purely contractual and full-time in nature.
  • It does not confer any right to regular appointment or continuation in service in the Supreme Court of India.
  • The engagement may be terminated by the Registry at any time with prescribed notice.
  • During the assignment period:
    • Law Clerks shall not accept any other assignment, and
    • Shall not practice as an Advocate in any court of law.


Selection Process

The selection process consists of three stages:

Part I – Objective Test (MCQs)

Part II – Descriptive Written Examination

Part III – Interview

Candidates must qualify each stage to progress to the next.


Remuneration

💰 Selected candidates will receive a consolidated remuneration of ₹1,00,000 per month, making it one of the most prestigious and well-paid legal research positions in India for young law graduates.
