Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai has been nominated to the Union Ministry of Education’s high-level committee for higher education reforms. The panel will guide the transition to the proposed Indian Higher Education Commission framework.

In a significant recognition, Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai has been appointed as a member of the high-level committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Education. The committee aims to provide strategic guidance for transitioning India’s higher education institutions to the proposed structure under the Indian Higher Education Commission (IHEC).

A Prestigious Nomination

The nomination of Prof. Rai to the committee marks a major milestone for Lucknow University. The committee includes vice-chancellors from two central and three state universities across India, alongside directors from premier institutions such as IIT Mumbai and IIM Ahmedabad. This diverse representation ensures a comprehensive approach to academic reform and structural transition.

Committee Objectives

According to LU spokesperson Durgesh Srivastava, the committee’s primary goal is to develop guidelines for transforming existing higher education institutions into multidisciplinary establishments as per the new framework proposed by IHEC. It will also:

  • Formulate regulatory directions for transition
  • Analyze and coordinate with existing statutory and regulatory bodies
  • Suggest protocols for academic grants and inter-institutional collaboration
  • Promote academic and administrative harmony across diverse educational disciplines

Path Toward Academic Integration

The committee will also play a vital role in setting uniform academic standards and integrating teaching, research, and curriculum design across institutions. This initiative is a major step towards realizing the vision of holistic, multidisciplinary education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
