📢 UGC Warns Institutions Over Anti-Ragging Non-Compliance
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a strong directive to multiple higher educational institutions across the country for failing to comply with mandatory anti-ragging undertakings from students, as well as institutional compliance declarations.
This move comes in the backdrop of growing concerns around campus safety and the need for proactive measures against ragging.
📋 Mandatory Actions Required by Institutions
In its latest notice, the UGC has directed all defaulting institutions to take immediate corrective action. The two key requirements are:
1️⃣ Submit Institutional Anti-Ragging Compliance within 30 days from the date of notice.
2️⃣ Ensure all students submit their Anti-Ragging Undertakings online through the designated portal.
3️⃣ Provide a detailed report on anti-ragging measures currently in place, including awareness drives, grievance redressal mechanisms, and campus surveillance steps.
⚠️ Strict Penalties for Failure to Comply
UGC has made it clear that non-compliance within the given timeline may invite strict regulatory action, which includes but is not limited to:
- 🛑 Withdrawal of UGC Grants and Research Funding
- 📢 Public Listing of Non-Compliant Institutions on the UGC official website
- 🚫 Potential Derecognition or Withdrawal of Affiliation after further review
The move is intended to reinforce the importance of a safe and inclusive learning environment across all campuses.
🛡️ UGC’s Stand on Student Safety
The UGC has repeatedly emphasized zero tolerance towards ragging in any form. In accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, all institutions are required to implement preventive and punitive measures to ensure student safety.
Institutions are also required to establish an Anti-Ragging Committee, Anti-Ragging Squad, and conduct regular orientation and sensitization sessions.
🖱️ How Institutions Can Submit Compliance
Colleges and universities must visit the official UGC Anti-Ragging Portal and upload the required documents. Students are also expected to submit their online anti-ragging affidavits via www.antiragging.in or www.amanmovement.org.
Institutions are encouraged to treat this as a priority issue and ensure full compliance to avoid serious consequences.
