📍 About the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (LADCS)

The Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (LADCS) is a reform-based model introduced by NALSA, inspired by the public defender system. It aims to strengthen the legal aid movement in India by ensuring:

• Full-time engagement of lawyers exclusively for legal aid work
• Professional and structured legal representation in criminal matters
• Assistance at every stage — from pre-arrest, arrest, remand to trial and appeals
• Timely and competent legal services for underprivileged and disadvantaged sections

Under this system, engaged lawyers will handle criminal legal aid cases exclusively and will not be permitted to take up private practice or any other retainership during the contractual period.
