About the Department of Legal Affairs

Established in 1961, the Department of Legal Affairs is responsible for handling the legal advisory and litigation work of the Government of India. The Department plays a crucial role in matters relating to constitutional law, administrative law, and policy-level legal decision-making.

About the Internship Programme

The internship is a full-time, physical programme designed to familiarise interns with the day-to-day working of the Department. Interns will gain practical exposure in diverse legal fields including:

Constitutional Law

Administrative Law

Finance & Infrastructure Law

Labour Law

Arbitration

Contract Law

Government litigation and advisory matters

Eligibility Criteria

Indian students or graduates who meet any of the following criteria are eligible:

Completed 2nd year of a 3-year LL.B., or

Completed 3rd year of a 5-year LL.B., or

Law graduates from recognised institutions

Preference will be given to candidates with advanced computer skills such as MS Office, infographics tools, Adobe software, etc.

Duration

🗓 One month, commencing from the first working day of the selected month

Internship Locations

📍 New Delhi

📍 Chennai

📍 Mumbai

📍 Kolkata

📍 Bengaluru

Selection & Deployment

50 interns are selected every month

Interns may be deployed at:

Main Secretariat (New Delhi)

Supreme Court Sections

High Court Litigation Sections

Branch Secretariats

Selection status will be communicated via the Internship Portal and/or email

Internship Requirements

Full-time physical internship (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM)

90% attendance mandatory

Submission of a monthly report and assigned research work

Mandatory formal dress code: White shirt and black trousers

Interns must arrange their own accommodation

Strict compliance with confidentiality and departmental rules

Stipend

💰 ₹1,000 on successful completion of the internship

Certificate

A certificate will be issued upon satisfactory completion, subject to attendance and evaluation by the concerned authority.

Last Date to Apply

⏰ 13 February (5:00 PM)

Required Documents

No Objection Certificate (NOC) from college/university (not required for graduates)
