National Legal Services Authority Announces Internship Opportunity for Law Students
The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has invited applications for its One-Month Internship Programme for law students across India. The internship aims to provide practical exposure to the functioning of NALSA and promote access to justice by engaging students in various legal services initiatives.
The programme is designed to familiarize aspiring lawyers with the legal aid system, Lok Adalats, and other specialized areas of legal services while offering hands-on experience in public service and justice delivery.
About NALSA
The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) was constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free legal services to the weaker sections of society and organize Lok Adalats for the amicable settlement of disputes. NALSA plays a significant role in ensuring equal access to justice through legal aid, awareness programmes, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
About the Internship
The internship provides law students with an opportunity to work closely with NALSA officials and gain practical knowledge of legal aid administration, policy implementation, legal research, and public interest initiatives.
The internship is conducted on a full-time, physical mode and begins on the 1st day of every month.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are invited from:
- Students pursuing a Three-Year LL.B. Course from a recognized University, College, or Institution.
- Students pursuing a Five-Year Integrated Law Course from a recognized University, College, or Institution.
Preference will be given to:
- Students in the 2nd or 3rd year of the Three-Year LL.B. Course.
- Students in the 4th or 5th year of the Five-Year Integrated Law Course.
Duration of Internship
- Duration: One Month (Four Weeks)
- Commencement: 1st day of every month
Internship Report
At the end of the internship, every intern must submit a report detailing the work undertaken during the internship at NALSA.
Certificate of Internship
Interns who successfully complete the internship to the satisfaction of the Member Secretary, NALSA will be awarded a Certificate of Internship.
Important Conditions:
- A minimum of 90% attendance is mandatory for the issuance of the internship certificate.
- NALSA will not issue any Letter of Recommendation.
Internship Guidelines
Applicants should note the following:
- No stipend or remuneration will be paid during the internship.
- No Travel Allowance (TA) or Dearness Allowance (DA) will be provided.
- Interns must arrange their own accommodation.
- Office timings are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Internship is conducted six days a week (Monday to Saturday). The second and fourth Saturdays are holidays.
- Interns must bring their own laptops for official work.
- Interns may be required to visit courts and other offices as part of their assignments.
- The prescribed dress code is formal Black and White attire in accordance with the Bar Council of Delhi.
- The internship is strictly full-time and physical, and interns are not expected to pursue any other academic course or employment during the internship period.
- Unsatisfactory performance may result in discontinuation of the internship.
Documents Required
Applicants must upload the following documents while submitting the online application:
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume.
- Expression of Interest (EOI) (not exceeding one page) explaining their interest in the internship and suitability for the programme.
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the competent authority of the institution (Dean, Head of Department, Internship & Placement Committee, or any other authorized authority), clearly mentioning the candidate's name and current semester/year.
Application Procedure
Interested students must submit their applications only through the online application form available on the official NALSA website.
No applications submitted through email, post, or any other mode will be entertained.
The application link remains active for two months before the month preceding the intended internship. For example, candidates seeking an internship in January 2026 can apply between 1 September 2025 and 30 November 2025.
Selection of interns will be based on individual merit, and the decision of the Competent Authority shall be final.
