NITI Aayog Opens Applications for Government of India Internship Programme

The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) has invited online applications for its Internship Programme 2026, offering students and research scholars an opportunity to work with India's premier public policy think tank. The internship is open to eligible undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholars from recognised universities in India and abroad, including law students who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria.

Interested candidates can submit their applications online by 10 July 2026.

About NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog serves as the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India. It plays a key role in policy formulation, economic planning, innovation, and cooperative federalism by working closely with Central Ministries, State Governments, and Union Territories to promote sustainable development and inclusive growth.

The Internship Scheme was introduced in 2015 to provide students with practical exposure to policy formulation, governance, and public administration.

About the Internship

The NITI Aayog Internship Programme enables students to work closely with different verticals, divisions, and departments of the organisation while gaining practical experience in public policy and governance.

Interns are expected to contribute through research, policy analysis, data collection, report preparation, and other assignments under the supervision of experienced officers.

Duration

The internship shall be for a minimum period of 6 weeks and may extend up to 6 months, depending on the requirements of the concerned division.

Eligibility Criteria

The internship is open to bonafide students enrolled in recognised universities or institutions in India or abroad.

Undergraduate Students

Applicants must:

• Have completed or appeared in the 2nd year/4th semester examinations of their bachelor's degree programme.
• Have secured at least 85% marks or equivalent in Class XII.

Postgraduate Students

Applicants must:

• Have completed or appeared in the 1st year/2nd semester of their postgraduate programme.
• Have secured at least 70% marks or equivalent in graduation.

Research Scholars / Ph.D. Students

Candidates pursuing research or Ph.D. programmes are also eligible, provided they have secured 70% or equivalent marks in graduation.

Fresh Graduates/Postgraduates

Candidates who have completed their graduation or post-graduation and are awaiting admission to higher studies may also apply, provided:

• They have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in all semesters/years.
• The period between declaration of results and the proposed internship does not exceed six months.

Application Process

Applications will be accepted only through the online mode on the official NITI Aayog internship portal.

Applicants should:

• Apply by 10 July 2026.
• Clearly indicate their area of interest while filling out the application form.
• Apply only once during a financial year, as multiple applications are not permitted.

The selected candidates will be required to produce:

• Original mark sheets.
• A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their college or institution at the time of joining.

Failure to produce the required documents may lead to cancellation of candidature.
