‘AI Should Complement Human Capabilities, Not Become a Substitute for Human Consciousness’: Justice K. Ajit Kumar

Hon’ble Justice K. Ajit Kumar of the Allahabad High Court emphasised that Artificial Intelligence should remain a tool to assist human beings and should not replace human consciousness, judgement and essential human capabilities.

Justice K. Ajit Kumar was speaking at a special dialogue session on ‘Human Consciousness in the Age of Artificial Intelligence’, organised by Shankh Prayagraj on the occasion of the Amrit Mahotsav of Chinmaya Mission at the District Panchayat Auditorium, Civil Lines, Prayagraj.

AI Must Remain a Tool for Human Progress

Justice K. Ajit Kumar observed that every invention has both positive and negative dimensions, and its impact ultimately depends on how it is used.

He stated that Artificial Intelligence can be used to improve human life and expand human capabilities, but excessive dependence on AI for every task could weaken the human abilities that are essential to humanity.

He further emphasised that self-awareness and consciousness are inherent to human beings and cannot be replaced by technology. According to him, human consciousness, judgement and capabilities must remain at the centre of technological progress.

Swami Mitranand Highlights India’s Quest for Truth

Pujya Swami Mitranand, Spiritual Guide, Chinmaya Mission, Chennai, was the Chief Speaker at the programme.

He said that India has never abandoned its quest for truth and that the emergence of Artificial Intelligence does not bring this quest to an end. Instead, AI can serve as a valuable aid in the pursuit of knowledge and truth.

Swami Mitranand highlighted the possibility of combining India's rich spiritual and cultural traditions with modern technology. Sharing his experience, he stated that he uses AI tools such as Midjourney and Nano Banana in his work.

He also spoke about the use of AI by his team in presenting the Bhagavad Gita and their attempt to present the complete Kamban Ramayanam in Tamil through AI.

However, he stressed that AI remains artificial and cannot replace human originality. While AI may provide information and clarity, spiritual realisation or moksha cannot be attained through AI. Information becomes meaningful only when it is understood and applied in life, leading to transformation.

‘AI Is a Product of Human Consciousness’: Acharya Shantanu Maharaj

Pujya Acharya Shantanu Maharaj, Guest of Honour, observed that Artificial Intelligence itself is a product of human consciousness.

He emphasised that a product cannot replace the original from which it emerged. According to him, AI may provide answers, but the ability to ask questions belongs to human beings.

He said that the human ability to question, think and seek understanding is what establishes the distinctiveness of human consciousness.
