NHRC Invites Applications for Online Short-Term Internship Programme September 2026; Stipend ₹2,000

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has invited applications for its Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI) – September 2026. The two-week online internship will be conducted from September 14 to September 25, 2026, and applications are invited from eligible students and research scholars across India. The NHRC’s annual internship calendar also confirms September 14–25, 2026 as the scheduled period for the September OSTI.



About the National Human Rights Commission

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is a statutory public body established under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The Commission works towards the protection and promotion of human rights and regularly conducts internship programmes to create awareness among students regarding human rights and related issues.

About the Internship

For September 2026, the NHRC will conduct a two-week Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI) from September 14 to September 25, 2026.

The programme is designed to provide students with learning and practical exposure to human rights issues through online sessions and academic activities. The NHRC's OSTI programme generally includes interactions with experts, project work and other activities relating to human rights.

Eligibility

Applications are invited from students and research scholars across India.

Eligible applicants include:

• Students studying in the 3rd year and onwards of an integrated 5-year postgraduate course.

• Students studying in the 3rd or final year of a graduation course.

• Students of any semester/year of a postgraduate degree course, including students pursuing a three-year LL.B.

• Students of any semester/year of a postgraduate diploma course.

Research scholars in any stream.

Applicants must have consistently secured a minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and the first four semesters of their graduation/integrated course. The NHRC's current internship guidelines confirm these eligibility requirements for OSTI.

The information provided for the September 2026 programme further specifies that candidates should not be more than 28 years of age as on August 1, 2026.

The internship is a full-time programme, with working hours from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Applicants should ensure their availability for the entire programme before applying.

Stipend

All students who successfully complete the internship will receive a stipend of ₹2,000.

A certificate of participation will also be awarded based on attendance, punctuality, discipline, participation in online sessions and timely completion of the prescribed academic activities.

Selection & Academic Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a 250-word Statement of Purpose (SoP) on the topic:

“Statement of Purpose (SoP) for joining NHRC Online Short Term Internship”

The SoP forms part of the selection process. The NHRC also states that preference is given to candidates demonstrating research potential in the field of Human Rights.

Documents Required

Applicants are required to submit:

Statement of Purpose (SoP) of 250 words.

Self-attested scanned copies of marksheets from Class XII onwards, including marksheets for each year/semester of the presently pursued course.

Recommendation Letter/Email from the concerned HOD, Dean or Principal in the prescribed format.

Applications without the required documents may be rejected.
