About PRS Legislative Research


PRS Legislative Research, popularly known as PRS, is an independent non-profit organisation established in 2005 with the mission of strengthening India’s legislative processes. Based in New Delhi, PRS provides Members of Parliament (MPs) and legislators with non-partisan, accessible, and well-researched analysis on complex legislative and policy issues.

Co-founded by C.V. Madhukar and M.R. Madhavan, PRS was incubated at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR). Since 2013, it has been institutionalised as the Institute for Policy Research Studies, a not-for-profit Section 8 company. PRS’s work is entirely funded through philanthropic donations and grants.

Currently, M.R. Madhavan serves as the President of PRS, and Mr. S. Ramadorai heads its Board of Directors.



About the Internship


PRS Legislative Research is inviting applications for its offline Research Internship in October 2025 (New Delhi).

  • Mode: Offline (In-person at New Delhi office)
  • Departments:
    • Research Team – analysing legislative and policy issues of topical interest.
    • Outreach Team – tracking functioning of legislatures and legislators, citizen engagement, and liaising with MPs/MLAs.
  • Duration: Rolling basis (Varies depending on Parliament session).
  • Work Structure:
    • During Parliament sessions – interns assist analysts on live issues being debated in Parliament.
    • During non-session periods – interns may be matched with analysts based on their own area of interest.
  • Internship Project: Completion of a research project is mandatory for successful completion of the internship.


Roles & Responsibilities


  • Assist PRS analysts in research on legislation, bills, and policy matters.
  • Track parliamentary proceedings, debates, and committee discussions.
  • Work on policy briefs, analytical reports, and citizen-engagement initiatives.
  • Contribute to PRS’s outreach by preparing material for MPs, MLAs, and the public.


Eligibility


  • Law students (penultimate/final year preferred), policy students, economics, political science, or related disciplines.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Keen interest in parliamentary processes, governance, and policy issues.
