About the Organisation

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) was the first National Law University established in India in 1986. The premier law school was set up with a mission to pioneer legal education reforms and to contribute to the transformation of the Indian legal system through research, litigation, and policy interventions.

About the Fellowship

The NLSIU Litigation Fellowship aims to support young lawyers at the early stage of their litigation careers. The fellowship recognises that first-generation lawyers, lawyers from marginalised communities, and women often face significant challenges in earning reasonable fees and receiving mentorship when they begin litigation practice.

The fellowship programme seeks to create a peer network and mentorship ecosystem to support young litigators and help them build sustainable litigation careers while contributing to constitutional values and the rule of law.

Eligibility

Applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

• Graduate of a 3-year or 5-year LL.B. degree with minimum 55% marks or equivalent CGPA
• Must be enrolled with the State Bar Council
• Must have passed the All India Bar Examination (AIBE)
• Final year law students graduating in 2026 may also apply, but must complete degree, enrolment, and AIBE before the fellowship begins
• Candidate must be 30 years of age or below on the last date of application
• Candidate should not have completed more than 5 years from the date of graduation
• Must provide proof of association with a practising lawyer/law office
• Must submit a Statement of Purpose explaining how their litigation career will advance rule of law and constitutional values

Preference will be given to:

• First-generation lawyers
• Candidates from marginalised communities
• Women litigators

Women fellows may also get opportunities to participate in special professional skill development and networking programmes organised by the University.
