Competition Commission of India (CCI) Announces Legal Internship Opportunity for Law Students and LLM Candidates

The Competition Commission of India (CCI), the statutory body responsible for enforcing competition law in India, has invited applications for its prestigious Legal Internship Programme. The internship offers law students and LLM candidates an opportunity to gain practical exposure to Competition Law and the functioning of India's competition regulator.

CCI was established under the Competition Act, 2002 and is entrusted with preventing practices having an appreciable adverse effect on competition, promoting and sustaining competition in markets, protecting consumer interests, and ensuring freedom of trade in India.

About the Internship

The internship is designed to provide students with practical insights into competition law, market regulation, antitrust issues, mergers and acquisitions, and the regulatory framework governing competition in India. Selected interns will work under the guidance of experienced officers and mentors at the Commission.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are invited from:

• Students in the Second and Third Year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Law (3-year LL.B. course after graduation).
• Students in the Fourth and Final Year of the Five-Year Integrated Law Course.
• Students who have completed their third year examinations and are entering the fourth year of the integrated law programme.
• LL.M. students.

Additional Requirements

• Applicants must be Indian Nationals.
• Candidates should be enrolled in recognized Universities or Institutions.
• Preference is given to students having exposure to Competition Law.
• Students who already have a placement offer in hand are not eligible to apply.

Duration of Internship

The internship is generally offered for one month, commencing from the first working day of the concerned month.

However, candidates interested in pursuing an internship for two to three calendar months may also apply, subject to recommendation from their respective University, College, or Institution for the desired duration.

Stipend

Selected interns will receive an honorarium of ₹15,000 per month during the internship period.

CCI offers 15 internship seats every month.

Certificate

Interns who successfully complete the internship and receive a satisfactory evaluation from their assigned mentor or guide will be awarded an electronic internship certificate by the Competition Commission of India.

Shortlisted candidates will be informed through the email address provided in their application.

Statement of Purpose (SOP) Requirement

Applicants must submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) of approximately 200 words, covering:

• Brief introduction of the topic.
• Objectives of the proposed study.
• Interest in Competition Law and related areas.

Application Procedure

Interested candidates must apply in the prescribed format provided by CCI. Applications submitted in any format other than the prescribed one will not be considered.

Important Requirements

• The application must contain a recommendation from the competent authority of the applicant's academic institution.
• Applications without institutional recommendation will not be entertained.
• The application should reach CCI by the 1st day of the month preceding the intended internship month.
