NEET PG 2025 postponed to August 3 after Supreme Court direction to conduct the exam in one shift
Supreme Court Allows Postponement of NEET PG 2025 to August 3
🏛️ Supreme Court Permits NEET PG 2025 to be Conducted on August 3
In a significant development, the Supreme Court of India on Friday permitted the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBE) to reschedule the NEET PG 2025 examination from June 15 to August 3.
📅 Background: Shift Change Led to Scheduling Conflict
Earlier, the Court had directed the NBE to conduct NEET PG 2025 in a single shift, instead of the earlier proposed two-shift format. This direction came in response to a plea filed by a group of candidates, who raised concerns about fairness and uniformity in the exam process. They argued that NEET PG had traditionally been held in one shift, and any shift-based model could potentially compromise merit and standardization.
🧾 NBE Cites Logistical Constraints for Postponement
During the hearing, the counsel for NBE submitted that shifting to a single-shift format would require doubling the number of exam centres. This would involve identifying and assessing security parameters at new locations, which needed more preparation time.
“We will need double centres to conduct the exam in 1 shift. Identification, assessing security parameters etc will take time. We have highlighted other reasons in our application which is why the exam needs to be conducted on August 3,” the NBE counsel informed the Court.
⚖️ Supreme Court Grants Time But No Further Extensions
Accepting NBE’s request, the Supreme Court allowed the interim application. It noted the NBE’s communication with its technological partner TCS regarding the logistics involved in managing a single-shift exam.
“Interim application has been filed seeking rescheduling the NEET PG examination to August 3. Reference has been made to various communications between the respondents and their technological partner TCS talking about the extensive measures required to prepare the technological paraphrasing of the centres. Respondent No. 1 is permitted to hold the exam on August 3, 2025. No further extension shall be granted,” the Court stated.
📜 Petitioners Also Sought Access to Answer Sheets
Apart from challenging the shift pattern, the petitioners also requested access to the question papers and answer sheets of NEET PG candidates. However, Friday’s order was confined to the issue of exam scheduling and logistical feasibility.
August 3 is Final Exam Date
With the apex court's decision, NEET PG 2025 will now be held on August 3, 2025, in a single shift. The Court has made it clear that no further extension will be entertained.
