A serious case of alleged sexual harassment and professional misconduct has surfaced from Iswar Saran Degree College (ISDC), a constituent college of the University of Allahabad. A fourth-year law student has filed a formal complaint accusing an Assistant Professor of sustained harassment, intimidation, and abuse of authority over a period of two years.

Allegations of Sexual Harassment and Misconduct

According to the complaint submitted on January 30, 2026, the student has described a disturbing pattern of behavior by the faculty member. The allegations include:

  • Lewd and inappropriate comments about the student’s physical appearance
  • Intrusive questions about the student’s personal and sexual life
  • Derogatory remarks about undergarments
  • Unwanted physical contact, including a forced hug and kiss

The student highlighted that the power imbalance between a professor and student made it difficult to resist or report immediately.

Criminal Intimidation and Religious Insult Alleged

The complaint further alleges criminal intimidation, stating that the professor threatened the student while holding a stick and making graphic remarks.

Additionally, the student has accused the faculty member of hurting religious sentiments by making offensive comments regarding the Janeu (sacred thread).

Academic Retaliation Claims

Following the complaint, the student has alleged institutional retaliation. Despite maintaining over 90% attendance, his internal assessment marks were reportedly reduced to 18 out of 40.

College Administration Responds

Response from the College Authorities.

In an official response dated March 20, 2026, Principal Prof. Anand Shanker Singh confirmed that the college has taken cognizance of the matter.

  • An internal inquiry committee was constituted on February 4, 2026
  • The accused professor has been restricted from teaching or evaluating the student
  • Final disciplinary action will depend on the committee’s report

While interim relief has been provided, the student has expressed concern over the delay of nearly three months in the inquiry process.

Larger Concerns: Accountability in Higher Education

  • Effectiveness of Internal Complaints Committees (ICC)
  • Timely redressal of sexual harassment complaints
  • Safeguards against academic retaliation
  • Power dynamics within educational institutions

As the inquiry continues, the case highlights the importance of transparent, time-bound investigations and strong institutional mechanisms to protect students. The final report of the inquiry committee is awaited.
