NITI Aayog Invites Applications for Internship Scheme 2026; Students Can Apply Online Till August 10
The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) has invited applications for its Internship Scheme 2026, offering students and research scholars an opportunity to work with the Government of India’s premier public policy think tank. The internship provides exposure to policy formulation, governance, and research while enabling students to contribute to various government initiatives.
The internship is open to eligible undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students from recognised universities and institutions in India and abroad. Interested candidates can apply online through the official NITI Aayog portal by 10 August 2026.
About NITI Aayog
NITI Aayog is the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India. It plays a key role in promoting economic development, cooperative federalism, and evidence-based policymaking by working closely with Central Ministries, State Governments, and various stakeholders.
About the Internship
The Internship Scheme, introduced in 2015, aims to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of the Government of India. Selected interns will have the opportunity to work with different verticals and divisions of NITI Aayog based on their academic background and area of interest.
The internship duration ranges from a minimum of six weeks to a maximum of six months.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be bonafide students enrolled in a recognised university or institution in India or abroad and fulfil any one of the following conditions:
- Undergraduate Students: Must have completed or appeared in the term-end examinations of the 2nd year/4th semester of their bachelor's programme and secured at least 85% marks (or equivalent) in Class 12.
- Postgraduate Students: Must have completed or appeared in the term-end examinations of the 1st year/2nd semester of their postgraduate programme and secured at least 70% marks (or equivalent) in graduation.
- Research Scholars/Ph.D. Students: Eligible to apply if enrolled in recognised institutions.
- Students who have completed graduation or postgraduation and are awaiting admission to higher studies may also apply, provided:
- They have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in graduation/postgraduation.
- The period between the declaration of their final result and the desired internship month does not exceed six months.
Duration
- Minimum: 6 weeks
- Maximum: 6 months
Application Procedure
Interested candidates must submit their applications online only through the official NITI Aayog Internship Portal.
Applicants should note:
- Applications must be submitted by 10 August 2026.
- Applications can be submitted up to six months in advance, but not later than two months before the desired internship month.
- Candidates must clearly mention their preferred area of interest while applying.
- A candidate can apply only once during a financial year.
- Selected candidates must produce their original mark sheets and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their college/institution at the time of joining. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of candidature.
