📢 About NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is a statutory body established under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.

It plays a crucial role in the promotion and protection of human rights in India, including spreading awareness, addressing violations, and advising the government on human rights issues.

As part of its mandate under Section 12(h), NHRC has been conducting internship programmes since 1998 to engage students and build awareness about human rights.



🎓 About the Internship (OSTI – May 2026)

NHRC has announced a two-week Online Short Term Internship Programme (OSTI) for May 2026, aimed at providing students with:

Practical exposure to human rights issues
Understanding of institutional mechanisms
Research-based learning opportunities

📅 Internship Duration: 18 May to 29 May 2026

This is a fully online programme, making it accessible to students across India.

👩‍⚖️ Eligibility Criteria

Applications are invited from students meeting the following criteria:

Students in 3rd year and above of a 5-year integrated course
Students in 3rd/final year of graduation
Students pursuing postgraduate degree courses (including 3-year LL.B)
Students pursuing postgraduate diploma courses
Research scholars from any discipline

📊 Academic Requirement

Minimum 60% marks in Class XII
Minimum 60% marks in first 4 semesters of graduation/integrated course

Candidates must clearly convert CGPA/SGPA into percentage using a proper formula
Failure to do so may lead to rejection

❗ Note: Students who have already completed an NHRC internship are not eligible

🧾 Selection Process

Selection will be based on a structured evaluation:

Class XII Marks – 30 marks
Graduation Marks – 40 marks
Statement of Purpose (SOP) – 30 marks

📌 SOP Requirement:
Applicants must submit a 250-word Statement of Purpose on:
“Reason for Joining as Intern in NHRC”

Preference will be given to candidates with strong research interest in human rights

Approximately 100 interns will be selected for this programme

💰 Stipend

Selected interns will receive a stipend of ₹2,000 upon successful completion
