CUET-UG 2025 to Begin from May 13: NTA Confirms Delay, CBT Mode for All Subjects
Over 13.5 Lakh Candidates to Appear in the National-Level Entrance Test
New Delhi: The Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate Programmes (CUET-UG) 2025, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), will now commence from May 13, five days later than originally scheduled. The delay has sparked confusion and concern among lakhs of students, especially in the absence of timely official updates on city intimation slips and subject-wise schedules.
Revised Exam Schedule Likely Till First Week of June
According to reliable sources, the NTA has finalized the new dates and is expected to conduct the exam in multiple phases until the first week of June 2025. Although an official date sheet has not yet been released, the NTA is expected to issue city intimation slips by Tuesday or Wednesday, which will inform candidates of the exam city and possibly the dates for their respective subjects.
Record-Breaking Registrations This Year
This year, the CUET-UG has seen a historic surge in participation, with over 13.5 lakh candidates registering for the exam. The CUET serves as the gateway to undergraduate admissions in a wide range of institutions, including central, state, and private universities across India.
Full Transition to Computer-Based Mode
In a significant change, CUET-UG 2025 will be entirely conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, a departure from the hybrid format used in previous years. All 37 subjects will follow this format, with each paper having:
- 50 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs)
- 60 Minutes Duration per Paper
The NTA plans to conduct the exam in 2–3 shifts daily, based on the availability of centres and logistical requirements.
Most Opted Subjects: English and General Test
The subject-wise data indicates that:
- English is the most popular subject, with over 10 lakh applicants, necessitating at least 10 shifts to accommodate all candidates.
- The General Test has also seen over 8 lakh registrations, further complicating the scheduling process.
This high volume of test-takers across varied subjects has made efficient and timely scheduling a challenge for the agency.
Lack of Communication Raises Concerns
Unlike previous years, the NTA has not issued a detailed date sheet. The only expected mode of communication for exam details this year is through the city intimation slips, which may include subject-wise exam dates.
Students and parents have expressed frustration and anxiety due to the delayed announcements, particularly those needing to make travel and accommodation arrangements in unfamiliar cities.
Advice for Candidates
With the CUET-UG 2025 exam cycle fast approaching, candidates are strongly advised to:
- Check the official NTA CUET website (https://cuet.samarth.ac.in) regularly
- Download and read the city intimation slips carefully once released
- Prepare for a densely packed exam schedule from May 13 onward
As the countdown begins, students are urged to remain calm, focus on their revision, and stay updated with official announcements to avoid misinformation and last-minute stress.
