In a remarkable step towards speedy justice and reduction of judicial pendency, a Mega Lok Adalat was successfully organized across Prayagraj district on Saturday, 13 December 2025, resulting in the disposal of 2,27,876 cases in a single day.

The Lok Adalat was conducted at the District Court, Prayagraj, along with all Tehsil-level courts, under the supervision of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Prayagraj, as part of the nationwide effort to promote Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms.

The primary objective of organizing the Lok Adalat was to:

  • Reduce the heavy pendency of cases in courts
  • Provide speedy, inexpensive, and amicable justice
  • Encourage settlement through mutual compromise and conciliation

According to official figures, a total of 2,27,876 cases were resolved during the Lok Adalat. These included matters pending before:

  • District Courts
  • Tehsil Courts
  • Family Courts
  • Motor Accident Claims Tribunals
  • Revenue Courts
  • Electricity and bank recovery cases

Special emphasis was placed on disputes capable of settlement, including civil, compoundable criminal, and service-related matters.

A significant achievement of the Lok Adalat was the resolution of 72 Family Court cases, which were settled through mutual understanding and compromise. These cases mainly involved:

  • Matrimonial disputes
  • Maintenance matters
  • Domestic disagreements

Such settlements helped families avoid prolonged litigation and emotional distress.


🏛️ Lok Adalat at Allahabad High Court

On the same day, a Lok Adalat was also organized at the Allahabad High Court, where 298 cases were disposed of amicably.

As per official data, compensation exceeding ₹10.18 crore was awarded to the litigants in High Court matters, particularly in motor accident and compensation-related cases.

The Lok Adalat ensured immediate relief to litigants by awarding compensation and settlements on the spot. The process eliminated delays usually associated with traditional court proceedings, benefiting economically weaker sections.

Lok Adalats function under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. Awards passed by Lok Adalats are:
