About the Internship Programme

The Department of Legal Affairs conducts an Internship Programme for law students and graduates to familiarize them with the functioning of the department.

Through this internship, participants gain practical exposure in areas such as:

  • Legal research and referencing work
  • Court functioning and litigation management
  • Tendering legal advice to government departments
  • Work related to:
    • Constitutional Law
    • Administrative Law
    • Finance Law
    • Infrastructure Law
    • Economic Law
    • Labour Law
    • Arbitration and Contract Law
    • Conveyancing

The internship aims to provide practical insight into government legal processes and policy advisory work.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Indian students who have completed:
    • 2nd year of a three-year LL.B. course, or
    • 3rd year of a five-year integrated law course
  • Law graduates from recognized universities or law schools may also apply
  • Candidates with advanced knowledge of computers (MS Office, infographics, Adobe, etc.) will be preferred

Duration of Internship

The internship is generally conducted for one month and typically begins on the first working day of each month, unless otherwise specified.

Selection Process

  • 50 candidates are selected for each internship cycle.
  • Shortlisted candidates will receive communication through the Internship Portal or email.

Deployment Locations

Selected interns may be deployed at the following locations:

  • New Delhi (Main Secretariat)
  • Central Agency Section at the Supreme Court of India
  • Litigation High Court Section at the Delhi High Court
  • Branch Secretariats in:
    • Chennai
    • Mumbai
    • Kolkata
    • Bengaluru

Submission of Internship Report

At the end of the internship, interns must submit a monthly report along with assigned research work to Admin-1 (LA).

Certificate of Internship

Interns will receive a Certificate of Internship upon satisfactory completion, subject to:

  • Minimum 90% attendance
  • Positive evaluation from the supervising authority

The internship is full-time and physical, and interns are not expected to pursue any other course or work simultaneously.

Honorarium

Interns may receive an honorarium of ₹1000 after successful completion of the internship.

Important Terms & Conditions

  • Interns must arrange their own accommodation
  • Working hours: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Interns must follow departmental rules and confidentiality protocols
  • A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) must be signed
  • Dress code: formal black trousers and white shirt
  • The internship does not guarantee employment with the Department
