CLAT 2027 Syllabus and Exam Pattern to Remain Unchanged; Consortium Invites Public Feedback on Expert Committee Report

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has announced that there will be no changes to the syllabus, exam pattern, or sections of the Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) papers for CLAT 2027. The decision was taken during the Annual Meeting of the Governing Body of the Consortium held on 18 July 2026, following deliberations on the CLAT Expert Committee Report 2026.

The announcement provides clarity for thousands of aspirants preparing for CLAT 2027 while also outlining the roadmap for future reforms through expert consultation and public participation.

No Changes for CLAT 2027

According to the official press release, the Governing Body has resolved that the UG and PG examinations for CLAT 2027 will continue with the existing syllabus, pattern, and sectional structure.

However, the Consortium stated that the Convener of CLAT 2027 and all paper setters will consider and adopt the recommendations of the CLAT Expert Committee relating to question format and quality wherever feasible, without altering the existing examination framework.

This decision ensures continuity for candidates preparing for the upcoming examination while allowing gradual improvements in the quality of questions.

CLAT Expert Committee Report to be Published

The Consortium also announced that the CLAT Expert Committee Report 2026 will be published on its official website.

The report will be placed in the public domain to invite feedback and suggestions from legal experts, students, academicians, and the general public.

Interested stakeholders may submit their comments through the prescribed online feedback form until 31 August 2026.

The Consortium stated that this participatory approach is intended to make future reforms more transparent and inclusive.

Future Reforms to be Considered for CLAT 2028

The press release further reveals that during a meeting convened by the President of the Consortium of NLUs at the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, on 17 May 2026, it was resolved that the Office of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India would constitute a Committee to further examine the recommendations of the Expert Committee.

The Consortium's Governing Body will coordinate with this Committee while considering both the Expert Committee's recommendations and the public feedback received.

The outcomes of this exercise are expected to shape reforms for CLAT 2028, indicating that any major changes to the examination are likely to be implemented only after a comprehensive review process.
