UGC Invites Proposals for MOOCs in Environmental Studies under SWAYAM: Last Date Extended to 31st May 2025

Introduction

In a significant move to enhance digital learning and promote sustainability education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has extended the deadline for submitting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for developing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in Environmental Studies under the SWAYAM platform. Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) are invited to submit their proposals online by 31st May 2025.

Objective of the Initiative

The initiative aims to develop high-quality and accessible courses that empower learners with essential knowledge about environmental challenges and solutions. This aligns with India’s commitment to sustainable development, climate action, and integrating environmental education in the academic sphere.

List of Environmental MOOCs Proposed for Development

The following Environmental Studies topics have been identified for MOOC development:

1. Climate Change, Mitigation, and Adaptation Strategies
   Focuses on technological, nature-based, and market-based interventions.

2. Environmental Monitoring and Instrumentation
   Emphasizes practical tools and techniques for measuring environmental data.

3. Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG)
   Addresses sustainability practices and ethical responsibilities in corporate environments.

4. Environmental Communication and Journalism
   Prepares learners to report, interpret, and communicate environmental issues effectively.

5. Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) and Environment
   Explores traditional Indian ecological wisdom and its relevance in modern sustainability practices.
