About the Ministry of Women and Child Development

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), functioning under the Government of India, is the apex body responsible for the formulation, implementation, and administration of policies, laws, and programmes related to the welfare and development of women and children in India.

The Ministry plays a crucial role in designing initiatives and frameworks aimed at promoting gender equality, safeguarding child rights, and strengthening social welfare mechanisms across the country.



About the Internship Programme

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has invited applications for its Internship Programme, designed to provide meaningful exposure to students, scholars, social activists, and teachers interested in the field of women and child development.

This internship aims to provide participants with first-hand exposure to government policymaking, programme implementation, and policy analysis. Interns may also undertake pilot projects and micro-studies focusing on the ongoing activities and initiatives of the Ministry.

Through this programme, the Ministry seeks to empower participants with a deeper understanding of social policy and governance while encouraging them to actively advocate for issues related to women and child welfare in various professional and academic platforms in the future.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are invited from candidates who fulfill the following requirements:

  • Only women candidates are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be students, scholars, social activists, or teachers associated with any university, academic institution, or non-academic organization.
  • Preference is given to candidates from Non-Tier I cities and rural areas of India.
  • Candidates must fall within the age group of 21–40 years.

Stipend and Facilities

Selected interns will receive several benefits during the internship period, including:

  • Monthly stipend of ₹20,000
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses for joining and returning from the internship (Deluxe/AC Bus or 3 Tier AC Train)
  • Hostel accommodation in Delhi on a sharing basis for the duration of the programme, if required

Internship Duration and Batches

The internship programme is conducted in four terms during the financial year, each lasting two months:

  • May – June
  • August – September
  • November – December
  • February – March

Location

The internship will take place in Delhi, where interns will work closely with officials and gain exposure to the Ministry’s functioning.

Number of Seats

The Ministry of Women and Child Development selects up to 20 interns per batch for this programme.

Important Dates

For the May–June internship batch, applications must be submitted between 1 March and 10 March.

In general, applications must be submitted two months prior to the internship term, during the 1st to 10th of the application month. For example:

  • 1–10 March for May–June batch
  • 1–10 June for August–September batch
